Steps to apply for a patent
- The inventor must fill out an invention disclosure form and sign it from all inventors in the research whose names are listed in the form for the purposes of applying for patent registration.
- The inventor signs the non-disclosure agreement
- The above forms should be sent to the Technology Transfer Department at the Deanship of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies. All disclosures submitted to the department are confidential and may not be disclosed by inventors without a legitimate justification before the patent is filed.
- The forms are signed by the head of the department and a copy of these forms is sent to the inventor as an approval from the department not to disclose any information related to the subject of the patent application, except for the concerned parties, and the original forms are kept in the patent file in the department to be presented to the Intellectual Property Committee.
- Disclosures are evaluated by the department in terms of novelty, innovation and industrial applicability and the preliminary results of the evaluation are submitted to the Intellectual Property Committee. The results include the types of rights that can be protected and market opportunities. The department has the right to contact professional parties for this purpose.
- The Dean submits the assignments of the Intellectual Property Committee to the President of the University to take the appropriate decision about the patent application.
- In case that the university wants to proceed with the protection of the application, the department manages the affairs related to the filing process and prepares the necessary technical and legal documents. The department has the right to contact professional parties for this purpose.
